Nat Slavin is a multimedia artist with a focus on assemblage, acrylic paint, and video. Living in the Illinois suburbs for nearly 20 years, they were influenced greatly by the quiet, haunting creeks and breeze of the midwest, and now, the loud, concrete, demanding surroundings of their home city of Chicago. These contrasting forces lay the groundwork for what Slavin exemplifies best— friction. Slavin calls attention to contradictions, leans into paradigms, and twists the darkness that looms together with the sweetness hidden in corners all around us. They work intuitively, collaging and deconstructing words and materials, colors and shapes, even events and moments in time.
